Will Your Old Man Thank You?

Please allow me to introduce you to 65 year old “Dres.”

You got to love technology! That is me sitting on my front porch some 25 years later. Here is the question for the day. Will the “old man/woman” you thank you for how you are building your life today? Will the “old man/woman” you be upset with the way you have patterned your life physically, intellectually, financially and emotionally? Here are some thoughts to process that ponder.

I. Create A Mission Statement.

To get where you want to be you have to know what direction you need to be traveling. Sounds basic, but a large portion of the people I interact with don’t actually know where they want to be in life. They are just going through the motions and hoping to arrive in a safe place in the future. Can you explain your life purpose or calling in one sentence? Here is mine if it encourages you any. “I want to be part of a great missions movement while enjoying life with my friends and family.” What is yours?

II. Get Better Not Bitter.

Have you ever been around a bitter old man? Not exactly an enjoyable experience to say the least. Well, the great truth is that he did not wake up at 65 years old bitter. This is the culmination of years of lack of forgiveness, vindictive attitude and bondage. Forgiveness is the deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness. The secret sauce is that forgiveness actually provides rich soil into your life so that you can flourish beautifully. Lack of forgiveness releases toxins and pollution into your soil which grows a harvest of bitterness.

The act of forgiveness is the act of returning to present time. And that's why when one has become a forgiving person, and has managed to let go of the past, what they've really done is they've shifted their relationship with time.

III. Guard Your Mind.

We live in amazing times! I don’t agree nor do I even understand the phrase, “the good ole days.” When exactly was that? In my worldview the world has been equally plagued with pain and evil since the day Adam and Eve partook of the tree of good and evil. I happen to believe we are living in the days of incredible opportunity. If your “old man/woman” is going to thank you, then you have to guard your mind like a military base. Only allow content, information, images and frequencies that are going to help you be the best version of you. Alex Murdaugh was sentenced yesterday, April 1st 2024, for killing his wife and son along with other financial crimes. The great truth is that Alex did not wake up a murderer. There were seeds he allowed to be planted in his mind over the last 25 years that took harvest in a horrific way years later. If Alex could talk to his 30 year old self the conversation would be quite dynamic!
